Our Program
The music program at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School was started with the expectation of always maintaining high standards when it comes to performance. Over the years, the music program has developed into a group of students and teachers that look for every possible opportunity to share its gift with not only the Gonzaga school community, but also the broader community that surrounds our school

Each year, our program searches out new opportunities to engage with the Gonzaga community as well as prepare for annual concerts, liturgical celebrations, and Provincial/National competitions.
Our Music Classes
In our daily music classes, our goal is to develop an understanding and appreciation for the music making process. Students learn to develop an awareness of the basic elements of music, and apply those elements to create and perform a variety of music. The classes are geared towards developing musicians from all levels. Whether you have taken private lessons, played in your elementary school, or have no experience with music whatsoever, the Gonzaga music program can offer a unique experience for all looking to grow as not only musician, but also as a positive member of the wider community as well.

Extra-Curricular Ensembles
If you walk the halls at Gonzaga after school, you will find that music spills into the halls every day of the week. Between the three music teachers, Gonzaga houses six (6) official ensembles including:

-
Junior Concert Band (Grade 9's only)
-
Symphonic Band (Gr. 10's only)
-
Wind Ensemble (Gr. 11's and Gr. 12's)
-
Jazz Band (Gr.10-12 and filled through audition)
-
Concert Choir (open to all Gonzaga students)
-
Jazz Choir (open to all grades, and filled through audition)

The rehearsals that take place after school help to prepare our ensembles for the many events and performances that take place throughout the year. While Gonzaga hosts two annual music concerts in December and May every year, the extra-curricular ensembles also compete in provincial competitions on a yearly basis.

Aside from these competitions, our ensembles are also asked to perform for various events, assemblies and liturgical celebrations that happen throughout the year. You can bet that if you are a part of one of the ensembles listed above, you will be called on every year to help the Gonzaga community through music
