The St. Aloysius Gonzaga Jazz Ensemble is an extra-curricular Big Band consisting of highly dedicated and skilled musicians. Its members range from 14 to 17 years old and reside from the Mississauga community. The students are in grades 10 to 12, and they rehearse once a week from September to June.

 

This ensemble is audition based and the students learn a wide variety of genres and how to improvise. All solos are improvised by the students.

Their director would like to also acknowledge that while they are often called upon to perform at various school and community functions, many of the members of this year’s Jazz Ensemble are also involved in other extra-curricular ensembles including concert bands, symphonic bands and choirs. 

 

Each member is equally valuable and a vital part of the group and the students strive to maintain a strong bond both within the ensemble and outside of it.

On a typical year, the Jazz Band rehearses every Tuesday from 2:30-4:30 pm.

COVID-19 precautions have caused us to pause rehearsals for the time being.
